Changing the Way We Watch TV?

by on 16/10/2009

If you haven’t already tried it, then hurry over to TVCatchup, create an account and start to watch live feeds of over 30 British TV channels. For free.

And if you have an iPhone, then open the dedicated site at http://iphone.tvcatchup.com/ and watch your favourite programs wherever you happen to be. You can even pause the live TV just like you would with a Sky+ or Freeview+ box.

Not much is known about this UK start-up, and the offering is currently classified as beta. However, TVCatchup have already achieved an extremely impressive service. The quality is excellent and although broadcasters make most of the channels available on their own websites none of them currently transmits to mobile phones.

And TVCatchup have big ambitions. They have already submitted a proper iPhone app to Apple for approval and they are said to be working on a full video on demand (VOD) application for your computer which will allow download of shows for watching whenever you want.

This is exciting stuff, and I don’t think that it’s an exaggeration to say that this marks the beginning of a fundamental shift in the way we consume television.
